About Kate

Visit Dayton Marketing Community
Prior to joining LexisNexis, Kate worked as a business litigator for seven years, primarily on intellectual property lawsuits. In one such case, the jury returned a verdict in favor of the client for approximately $23 million, which made the nationwide top 100 jury verdicts of 2008. As a litigator, she was selected for inclusion in the Super Lawyers–Rising Stars Edition 2009. (To be eligible to be selected as a Super Lawyers–Rising Star, a candidate must be either 40 years old or younger or in practice for ten years or less. Less than 2.5% of the states lawyers are so named.)
Kate has argued before both state and federal courts, including the Sixth Circuit. She knew she wanted to be a lawyer from the fourth grade, and she takes pride in helping find solutions to business concerns and disputes.
Kate received her law degree and M.B.A. in Corporate Finance from The Ohio State University in 2002. She received her B.A. in 1998 from The George Washington University (Washington D.C.) where she studied international economics, Russian languages and literature.
When not working, Kate enjoys traveling, genealogy, and photography, but has almost given up trying to learn how to cook things that are actually edible in favor of trying to keep plants alive.
Listen in as Kate discusses some of the legal implications of emerging technology, especially as it pertains to marketing, on a podcast with David E. Bowman Listen Now.
Some representative matters she worked on as a litigator include:
- Representation of employers in workers’ compensation, ERISA, and other federal and state labor claims and litigation;
- Representation of employers in non-compete, tortious interference, trade secret and fiduciary duty litigation (including case in lists of nationwide top 100 verdicts of 2008)- verdict over $20 million);
- Representation of corporations in the assertion and defense of antitrust, trademark and patent infringement claims;
- Representation of corporations in complex contractual disputes, including claims to pierce the corporate veil and other issues; and
- Representation of corporations in negotiations and litigation with insurance companies.
